How BTS Displays Vulnerability and Fear

How would bts approach/act around someone they have a crush on?

I thought this was kind of interesting so I altered it a bit to fit the question of how do they act when they are feeling vulnerable or threatened, or how do they come off when they have their defenses up.

Namjoon — Ace of Cups (rev.) with the Ace of Wands

I feel like out of everyone this one intrigued me the most because it’s so simple. Basically, he’ll be super nice, considerate, and receptive towards anyone and everyone with the Ace of Cups, he’ll just take everything in and maintain that flow of conversation or interaction, but when he feels threatened, it flips. He shuts down his reception and starts projecting hardcore. Like, you know how it’s always really, really obvious when he gets annoyed with interviewers or how sometimes he straight up snarks back at them, that’s the Ace of Wands. He’s projecting, throwing their shit back at them in ways that he may not always realize is very, very obvious. Consciously he maintains his composure, but his tone, his body language, and his word choices change when he feels like he’s being fucked with.

Yoongi — The Lovers (rev.) with the Wheel of Fortune (rev.)

He shuts down. If he genuinely, feels threatened or he feels vulnerable in a situation, he shrinks down and disappears into the background. You won’t hear him or see him even if he’s literally standing two feet to the left. He pulls some Pisces shit and just sucks all of his energy inward, blocks his receptibility and cuts off his own projection so that you can’t even feel him there. This is something that I would think of as disassociating from a panic attack or a bout of depression following long runs of anxiety, not necessarily something that would happen within a single conversation. It’s like he has to have his exterior chipped away at in order to actually want to shut down, in which case, he would just… go ghost and sleep for a long time, literally disconnect from the world.

Hoseok — 10 of Pentacles with the 9 of Pentacles

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL foolish mortals, homeboy’s too rich for this shit… or at least that’s what he’d say when he needs to stand up for himself against people who seriously hit a nerve.

Jimin — 5 of Wands with the 2 of Pentacles (rev.)

I had the image in my mind of a child having a very seriously charged up tantrum. The aggression of the 5 of Wands with the instability of the 2 of Pentacles in reverse is like a child screaming bloody murder, tears pouring down their face, while just clawing, biting, and kicking at anyone that comes near them. It’s anger, very pure emotionally driven rage.

Jimin’s already quite a petite person, he already has some insecurities that leave him feeling vulnerable all the time, so if someone or something is setting out to intensify that, he like… goes rabid??? That’s what it feels like at least. I mean, I’m sure he’s not actually going to bite people, but like >.> haven’t the guys said that mad Jimin is scary as fuck? Because that’s what this seems like. Jimin doesn’t get defensive, he just gets mad.

Jin — 3 of Cups (rev.) with The Hanged Man

In great contrast to Jimin, Jin is very chill. Like this dead-ass turns into, “i’m not your friend anymore,”  vibes real quick. He just doesn’t bother. It’s like he acknowledges the issue long enough to decide that he’s done with it, and then after that, he uses The Hanged Man to literally alter his own view of the situation so that it doesn’t bother him, turning them into a joke that he can laugh at. That seems well and good, but with the image of the man being upside-down, this is literally like Jin is suppressing experiences and whatever else that makes him insecure. He just cuts off the person or the experience, but the actual hurt that comes with it is still inside of him, it’s just being pushed down. So, he handles it well by not handling it at all. I think if Jimin and Jin combined forces, they could pull off Namjoon’s style of defense very well.

Taehyung — King of Cups with the 9 of Wands

This kind of made me sad because this made me think of a kid who’s being bullied by older kids but doesn’t want to cry in front of them so he starts laughing with them really awkwardly, and then the bully bitches start to like fuck with him for laughing at himself, and like… make him bully himself? I don’t know how to explain that exactly, but it’s like when he feels threatened he’ll do everything in his power to NOT cry. That’s what the King of Cups is here — very specifically NOT crying. And the 9 of Wands is like this constant defense, constant watch for something or someone that could pick on his insecurities. It happens all the time so he’s always on the watch for it so that he knows exactly when he needs to laugh and make sure that he does NOT cry. In order to see him cry from insecurity or being upset with himself for something, it would have to hit very, very deep. Like any emotional distress that comes off like a level 3 is actually a level 9, he’s just filtering the expression of it to give himself a sense of control in the situation.

Kook — 7 of Cups (rev), The Moon (rev.), and Judgement (rev.)

I kind of expected something like this to come up, but also I didn’t at all. The 7 of Cups in reverse shows a lack of understanding towards the feeling of insecurity or vulnerability when it comes to being on the receiving end of someone else’s criticism. It’s like he feels bad, but he’s more concerned about picking what they are saying apart and then applying it to his own criticisms of himself, through The Moon. It’s like all of these reversed cards are him sucking everything in, turning the issue inside out and almost amplifying it. That Judgement in reverse is self-judgment. When he feels vulnerable he judges himself based on the issue at hand, but also for the fact that it’s making him upset. So, one thing can turn into like five things, and he just sucks it all in and processes it beyond belief. It’s too much to hold and I imagine that’s why he can get so upset with things when it comes to performance and express that vulnerability through his emotions very strongly
